“He was just holding me tight. I’m not sure about the kiss… It was just somebody celebrating. It wasn’t a romantic event. It was just … ‘Thank God, the war is over.'”

This piece speaks to me because this is an iconic picture from a soldier coming home from war. The bright colors to me symbolize the emotion coming from the kiss of the loved ones left behind, the happiness of his return and the hurt from all the moments his wife experienced while worrying about her husband while he was in combat.

I’m inspired by how the artist almost make the couple look like they are glowing and then the colors spit out from their embrace. This lets the viewer feel the emotion they had for each other at this very moment. The never endless look that the artist portrays makes me as a viewer think that the artist wanted that to represent their never ending love for one another.

I also like how the piece looks never ending and the strokes of color go all the way to the border of the building symbolizing the never ending love she has for her husband as he’s away. This picture makes me envy the love the two characters have for each other.
