Tennis is one of the world’s most widely-played sports and is enjoyed by players of all ages. It’s at no surprise that McEachern has a tennis team.

During the spring semester, students are given the opportunity to participate in baseball, golf, lacrosse, soccer or tennis. The tennis team consists of star players on both the girls’ and the boys’ team.

The girl’s varsity team has made many accomplishments and are on a five game winning streak.

“The tennis players should strive to win, not lose,’’ girls’ tennis coach Ryan Furr said. “Seeing the players make improvements in the team makes and the other coaches and I proud.’’

The tennis program consists of a boys and girls varsity and JV team this season. The team has been building over the last couple of years and are looking forward to what they can accomplish this season.

“Most of our starters are returning this season and we have a couple of new player’s that will help contribute to our success this season,” boys’ tennis coach James Hunter said.

Playing tennis has many health benefits for people of all ages. A few of these benefits include increasing aerobic capacities, lowering resting heart rate and blood pressure, and improving metabolic function.

“Tennis made me realize that I was extremely out of shape so it’s helping me get back in shape,” sophomore Jada Simms said.

McEachern’s tennis season started at the beginning of January and ends at the end of March.

“I think what the tennis team is doing is amazing because it gives them the opportunity to showcase their skills and show off their talent,” assistant principal Alvin Thomas said.

McEachern offers 14 sports that many students participate in as an outlet to minimize stress. With tennis being one of them, students can do just that.

McEachern’s tennis team will continue to have games until early April.
