Summer is known for being a retreat from mundane school life, but with that retreat comes the fact that more time will be spent on the roads. However, because you’re a proud Workaholic, here’s how to save yourself the hassle of losing your sanity.

When2Leave (Web)

When2Leave

When2Leave is a fairly simple web app for those looking to know when you should roll out to avoid traffic jams. You type in your current location and destination, and then tell it to notify you when the route’s travel time falls below a desired length, keeping the average and current traffic times for the route in mind.

Waze (Android/iOS)

If you haven’t heard of Waze. it’s a navigation app fueled by a community of users who report traffic incidents, slowdowns (and even speed traps). Basically, think of it as your traditional GPS with lifetime traffic that’s updated in real time.

However, the app tends to route you through the back roads to shave 30 seconds off your drive time. To get around this somewhat, you can head into Settings > Navigation > Routing Styles and select the “Shortest” option. This forces Waze to find the path of least resistance (the shortest distance) between two points instead of simply the fastest.

Next week on Workaholic, a special look at Google’s I/O conference. Until then, follow me around the Interwebs and stay productive.
