Similar to many young girls, I used to be obsessed with princess movies. My favorite one was Anastasia, a movie based on the Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia. The movie, a lot like Russia, was filled with ballet, rich history, and tremendous wealth which lead me to want to explore more of Russia.

This week’s Dreamy Destination is the Hermitage Museum located in St. Petersburg, Russia.

This museum is believed to have been established in the 18th century after Catherine the Great obtained a collection of 255 paintings from a Berlin Merchant, however, it was opened to public to view in 1852. From her meager collection, the Museum has grown to have over three million pieces which include rare books, paintings, sculptures, and much more.

Hermitage Museum is considered to be one of the oldest and largest museums in the world. It is mixed with rich history and lively heritage. In total, there are six buildings including Winter Palace. This white and green palace was the residence of former Russian royalty and is composed of  1,057 halls and rooms, 1,786 doors, and 1,945 windows.

The best part about visiting the Hermitage Museum is the daily free admission for students from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. They also include a virtual tour, and virtual collections on their website at http://www.hermitagemuseum.org/wps/portal/hermitage/explore/collections/master/1251499838/?lng=en
