The standards and established tests are fundamental to gauging and teaching the students of any given classroom.

The same text that students see on all their syllabus: Standard B1, so on and so forth. Benchmarks, midterms, and subject tests are established by one group—the teachers.

The established benchmarks and standards are created during teacher led meetings known as Professional Learning Communities (PLC).

There are different ideas on the theory of teaching—the general idea of how education should be undertaken is known as pedagogy. “Best practices. Agreed upon practices that is best for teaching. Pedagogy…all kinds of different reasons as to why kids learn,” said administrator James Bishop.

PLC’s are about finding the perfect needle and passing the perfectly taut thread through the perfectly sized eye. Teaching is a structured process. First, tests are made. The data is extrapolated and new tests and requirements for benchmarks are made accordingly.

PLC’s show how much work go into actually improving a student’s educational background. “Teachers are grouped in PLC’S depending on what they teach. It’s to check to see whether students are learning what they should be learning,” said Regina Montgomery. Readjustment is the most important part of the process.

Teachers make these standards for the betterment of a student’s education. “It solidifies the fact that teachers care,” said senior John Magaña. PLC’s are necessary for student improvement and as John said shows the fact that teachers go out of their way to make sure students earn a vital education.
