This week’s anime is Tokyo Ghoul. I initially watched Tokyo Ghoul the winter of 2015 and I highly recommend it.

The world of Tokyo Ghoul is set in present day Tokyo, however the world is filled with human-like creatures called ghouls. Ghouls look exactly like humans and behave as such, but there’s one characteristic that makes them unique, ghouls must eat human flesh to survive. A little gross I know, but this very fact that ghouls exist in this world sets the premise of the entire anime.

Tokyo Ghoul follows the life of Ken Kaneki, a young college student who is an avid book reader. Kaneki finds himself instantly drawn to Rize Kamishiro, a young, mysterious purple haired lady who is also a book reader. Kaneki views Rize as the perfect girl. Using this to her advantage, one day Rize offers to take Kaneki on a date. However, Rize is not exactly who she seems, and nearing the end of the date Rize reveals herself to be ghoul. This unfortunate meeting pushes Kaneki into the dark depths of the ghouls’ inhuman world.

Thankfully Kaneki is saved by Yoshimura, a kind ghoul who is the manager of a ghoul ran cafe called Anteiku.

Throughout the anime Kaneki is faced with many trials that he has to overcome. He also encounters a variety of interesting characters. What will be the fate of Kaneki?

Tokyo Ghoul has a total of 24 episodes that are divided into two seasons. The last episode to air so far came out on March 27, 2015 so many fans are anxiously waiting on the announcement of the third season. In case you finish Tokyo Ghoul before the third season comes out don’t worry, it has a manga.
