Everyone has nightmares but not all people face their fears. Maleeka Zehra paints her fears multiple portraits  of her fear and makes a portfolio of them.

Zehra says that she always has nightmares of her bugs and that is what inspired her to draw her portraits. Zehra draws many different images of people with bugs on and around them. One of her paintings shows a man with his face split and half. In the middle of the man’s face a spider web hangs between the two pieces of his face with various spiders attached.

One of the portraits was a painting of Zehra’s child sister sleeping with beetle like bugs crawling on the side of her face. This portrait portrays the Zehra’s nightmares and fear of bugs, it really shows that they haunt her in her sleep. Zehra draws out the portrait with pencil before she begins to paint. According to Zehra she had to mix multiple colors to get just the right tone of skin as I’ve described in my previous blogs. Zehra pays very close attention to detail with all of her work.

My personal favorite of all the portraits Zehra painted was the queen bee painting. Like the name the portrait portrays a queen. The queen’s crown oozes with honey which attracts bees to the queen, but the queen’s face looks uncomfortable and almost scared by the bees presence. The queen has dark almost black hair and tan skin, The background and the contrast of color with the background, hair and, yellow bees is eye catching. What really catches the eye of an observer with this portrait is the very detailed crown. The queen’s crown is the highlight of the portrait in my opinion. Queen bees is truly a work of art and pure genius.photo by Logann Houston
